Books 4-6 of The Mortal Instruments Series Review!!!

A few weeks ago I posted a review of the first three books in The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare and true to my word I said that I would be writing a review for the rest of the books in the series. Before I actually get into the review I want to start off by saying how with each book I continue to read by Cassandra Clare, the more I become more in love with her as an author because each book just seems to get better and better. I’m so happy that I’m finally able to finish the series and I definitely can’t wait to read more of her books because I’ve become absolutely obsessed with the shadow world. Cassandra Clare was so successful at creating such an amazing world filled with Shadowhunters and Downworlders and as I continued to read the books I remembered just how amazing I thought she was from the beginning (up until recently I had only read the first three books in the series but I finished them now but I mention that in my previous blog about the first three books in the series.) After finishing this series, Cassandra Clare has definitely become one of my favorite authors but now on to the review.

City of Fallen Angels:

City of Fallen Angels was actually a really interesting book because you get to see more how Jace, Clary, Simon, Isabelle, Alec, and Magnus all sort of work together to deal with problems that they all face. I really enjoyed this book and felt torn at the same time because of all the things that Jace has to face as well as Simon dealing with being rejected by his mother because he’s a vampire. At first the book was a bit slow for me but that didn’t stop me from finishing the book quickly and I still really loved but as a progressed further into the book I felt like I was in constant suspense. In the book all you know is that Jace is having terrible dreams where he kills Clary and it isn’t until the end of the book when you learn why Jace is having these dreams and why he constantly feels haunted.

I also really enjoyed this book because I love how Cassandra Clare developed this relationship between Jace and Simon. I love how as a way to somewhat be close to Clary without be near her because of his fear of hurting her how he vows to help protect Simon from the people that are trying to harm him. I loved Simon and Jace’s interactions and their undenying love for Clary.  I also have to say that I absolutely loved the ending of the book and after finishing the book I automatically had to start City of Lost Souls because I needed to know what happened next. Overall I just really loved the book and I have so much more I would like to say but I’m trying very hard to not give an spoilers even though I’m pretty sure that I did. I rate this book a 5/5 which isn’t surprising because I rated all of her books that I’ve read a 5/5.

City of Lost Souls

First and foremost all I have to say about this book is SIZZY, SIZZY, SIZZY. There was so much Sizzy and my heart just couldn’t handle it. I love all the ships in The Mortal Instruments with Malec being my favorite ship but Sizzy is a close second (but I also really like Saphael even though most of the time all they want to do is kill each other.) I also want to say that at the end of the book my heart was completely broken because of Malec although I won’t give any details as to why but I was so sad. I really enjoyed this book and so far I think it’s my favorite but I haven’t read the sixth book (by the time this review goes up I will have read the sixth book so we’ll see if it changes.

City of Lost Souls was my favorite so far because I loved how it picked up after the suspenseful ending of City of Fallen Angels. City of Fallen Angels ends with the reader not knowing what happened to Jace but having an idea that Sebastian was somehow involved. I loved Clary, Isabelle, Alec, Magnus, Jordan, Maia, and even Simon’s determination to find out what happened to Jace.  The relationships between the characters and their willingness to always help each other when someone is in danger is one of my favorite things about the characters. In City of Lost Souls you see how nearly everyone has given up on looking for Jace but his group of friends won’t give up on him. What I found really interesting was the state in which Clary finds Jace when she discovers where he’s at and who he’s with. The Jace that Clary finds isn’t necessarily the Jace she fell in love with and Clary does nearly everything to try to bring back the Jace that she fell in love with.

City of Heavenly Fire

I know that above I put that City of Lost Souls was my favorite so far in the series but now after having read City of Heavenly Fire, I think that I liked City of Heavenly Fire slightly more. City of Heavenly Fire made me feel so many different emotions and was truly a wonderful conclusion to the series. This book made me feel happiness, despair, heartache, and so much more and I’m so happy with how everything turned out. At one point during the book I got so upset and I kept saying that if things didn’t turn out right that I was never reading another Cassandra Clare book because when the Greater Demon Asmodeus took away Simon’s memories and left him not knowing anything about the shadow world, I felt like crying. Finally after Simon and Isabelle had said that they loved each other, he couldn’t just forget and know nothing about them. It was heartbreaking during the part where Clary called Simon and he had no idea who she was and when Clary saw him in person and he still didn’t recognize her. I felt so much pain for Izzy who finally opened herself up to someone just for his memories to be taken away from him leaving him not even knowing who she was. This book was truly spectacular and one of my favorite parts was when Clary used the Morgenstern sword to stab Sebastian, taking out the evil within him. It was sad during this scene because Sebastian  finally became the person that he was supposed to be and I understood why it was so painful for Clary and Jocelyn because they were mourning the person he never got to be because Valentine took that away from him before he was even born. I also loved how Alec was able to open up about his feelings to Jace about how hurt he was because of his breakup with Magnus but thankfully they got back together.

Overall Thoughts On The Series

Overall I absolutely loved the series and it’s definitely one of my favorites. Cassandra Clare is an amazing author and each book just keeps getting better and better. I’m currently very sad because it’s over but I’m going to be reading The Infernal Devices soon as well as Lady Midnight. I would most definitely recommend this series because it was amazing. There honestly wasn’t a book that I didn’t enjoy. Originally I was a little afraid that it would be hard to get through the first three books because I read them when I was in middle school but I loved them even more than the first time that I read them. I give the series as a whole a 5/5 stars because the characters and plot were incredible.

Have an ALMIGHTY Day!
